Story

In November last year, I lost my Dad to Gastro-Intestinal cancer. You often hear people talking about someone 'losing their battle' with cancer, but unfortunately, Dad didn't get a chance to fight. By the time doctors were able to accurately diagnose Dad's illness, it was too late for him. Sadly, Dad's story isn't uncommon.

Gastro-Intenstinal (GI) cancer is a term for the group of cancers that affect the digestive system, this includes cancers of the oesophagus, gallbladder, liver, pancreas, stomach and bowel. In Australia, GI cancer is the most common form of cancer, with 23,000 Australians diagnosed every year. For a variety of reasons, GI cancer is often not picked up until the late stages, meaning the survival rates are far lower than many other cancers.

On 21st September I'll be trying my very best to get through all 21 kms of the Blackmores Sydney Running Festival Half Marathon to raise some much-needed funds for the GI Cancer Institute. The GI Cancer Institute aims to save, extend and provide a better quality-of-life for people with gastro-intestinal cancers.

I would absolutely love your support, and any suggestions for the race day playlist would obviously be welcome.
