Story

My Marathon Story:

Earlier this year I lost my dad, the notorious ‘Big Z’, to lung cancer. Cancer is an unforgiving illness and it was a horrible thing to watch someone go through. We were lucky however, to have a pretty good 18 months with dad after his diagnosis and we got spend quality family time together.

I do believe that we only got to have that special time with him because research and medicine have come get lengths in fighting against the disease and it’s symptoms. Research, medicine and support cost money and I guess this is my small way of giving back.

I'm taking part in the Blackmores Sydney Marathon 2014 and hoping to raise some funds for the Cancer Council. Together with our volunteers, supporters, stakeholders and staff, the Cancer Council are committed to reducing the impact of cancer on individuals and the community, and to lessening the burden for people affected by cancer.

They are the only organisation that works across every area of every cancer:

·    conducting and funding world-class research that underpins our work in preventing cancer

·    supporting people as they navigate the cancer journey

·    advocating to ensure that governments take action on cancer.

The Cancer Council are there not only for those touched by cancer today, but to prevent and manage cancer into the future and that is why I would like to help support them.

This September, I’m going to be sweating it out and doing my best to complete a gruelling course over the Harbour Bridge, around Sydney's CBD and finishing at the Opera House steps...  I am honoured to be a part of this amazing race and helping a great cause, and I’d really appreciate your support in this bloody loooooong 42.4km endeavour.

Thank you for your support and helping to make a small but important difference! x
